verksamheten@abcsweden.org
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hej!

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am studying European Business at the University of Applied Sciences
Aachen, Germany. Currently, I am completing my last semester at the Mid
Sweden University in Östersund. In the course of these studies, I am
writing a D-level thesis about “Organizational Identity of Volunteers
and Prototypical Leadership in NGOsâ€.

The objective of this thesis is to identify to what extent volunteers who
are active in the field of development identify with the organization and
the people they work with. Additionally, it is my intention to find out
how far leadership behavior can enhance the volunteers’ identification
with an organization in order to achieve more satisfaction and commitment.

The contents mentioned above may appear very theoretical, but they do
actually possess important reference to practice as they provide insight
into the relationship between volunteers and the organization. It is
important for the organization and especially their leaders to be aware of
their personnel’s needs and values. Responding to them, they can offer
support and motivate to more commitment. This alignment might also attract
potential candidates for the voluntary development work. Thus, I am
convinced that in cooperating with me, you may realize new findings.

The reason why I am contacting explicitly your organization is that it
possesses a distinct structure and corresponds in my opinion very well to
the intentions of my study. I admire your volunteers’ dedication and
would like to learn more about their motivations and their relationship to
“ABC Sweden“. Furthermore, the way in which you lead and support them
would be of great interest to me as you offer a very interesting and
appealing volunteer program on your website.

In order to implement my research, I would preferably realize interviews
with one or more of your group leaders or managers as well as with a small
number of your volunteers. In an optimal setting, I would also like to do
group discussions with these volunteers. Due to the schedule of my
studies, I have only very limited time available for the writing of my
thesis. Therefore, I have to conduct the interviews already in April. Of
course, I will structure the research in a way that suites you most and
requires least time input from your side. As an email can only limitedly
describe and explain the content and sense of my study, I would like to
discuss further issues personally provided that you are interested. For
the moment, this would only be possible on phone. However, for conducting
the study, it is certainly possible for me to visit your facilities in
Lund.

I hope that this letter aroused your interest in cooperating with me on
this research. For further information, please feel free to contact me at
any time. I am looking forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Miriam Scherf
--
Odenslingan 32
83146 Östersund
Sverige
